Summertime movie audiences are in the mood for that sort of stuff. It seems that almost every new film lately goes overboard with special effects, explosions, and the obligatory car chase scenes (Do these guys ever take defensive driving?). "Talk to the hand," the Terminator says, taking his cue from an earlier scene at a strip club. The problem is that he's not going to pay for the merchandise, despite strong protests from the clerk. Or when the Terminator goes on a brief shopping spree at a convenience store, including the selection of a new pair of his trademark dark shades. "Don't do that," he says in his very best deadpan style, prompting the audience to roar in delight. Take the one in which the leading lady fires a semi-automatic pistol round point blank at the Terminator, which he proceeds to catch in his teeth and spits out. Ah-nold returns to his roots, so to speak, not failing in so much as one frame to entertain the audience with his trademark one-liners that provide momentary comic relief during and between several violent encounters.
